Out with Darron Woodmass today at a very moody Grafham! Green algae bloom in the week had turned brown over night making the water look like coffee and feel like it too! Darron had had a 20 year break from competition fishing and was keen to get back up to speed with new techniques and lines, was not to long before he was getting his string pulled but the pulls and fish were very sporadic we only managed 6 fish mostly to 12 foot slow tip and buzzers with a black cormorant booby on the point due to the water clarity .
Darron Woodmass was out with me again today after a tough day at Grafham yesterday, hoping the water would not be dirty as Grafham was the day before! We were met by flat calm conditions and very little wind but clear water and a few fish moving when we headed off for the North arm.
Was out with Saad and Abass today at Rutland , flat calm and very sunny but Rutland did not disappoint once again! The boy’s had limited experience with Saad being more proficient of the 2 but we started in Sailing club bay on the bung and the boy’s did fantastic by boating 13 fish in a few hours most on red head crunchers , we set off for Hide Away bay on the Lee shore in the afternoon and they had a fabulous afternoon by taking another 12 fish up to nearly three pounds. Saad fished the washing line in the afternoon and did really well and is going to make a fine angler, well done boy’s it was a pleasure being out with you.
Out with Bill Reboul today doing a bit of stalking in the crystal waters at Avington. We fished the first lake first after a bit of casting tuition as it was Bill’s second ever day ever fly fishing! He started to get a good line out, and within a few casts had hooked and lost one. Good start!
Had Mat Durkin out today looked like it was going to be a tough day as it was flat calm and 30 degrees we started on spring bank popping fly’s for the fry feeders but only had one follow! moved up to the mouth of Savages and found fish near the far bank, got broken on the first 2 fish??? not really sure why??
I was out with Nick Dunn, helping the FFF guiding team today. The water looked fantastic this morning. A light breeze coming off Spring Bank over cast! Surely we could not fail!
I was out guiding with Kevin Gibson, Roy, and Joe Hammond, and Gary Kersey. The day started off with a light breeze coming out of Savages. We started with the popper fly and had about 3 follows before I hooked a nice fish at The Stumps! It was not easy at first, which was confirmed by Al Owen who was out yesterday and had lots of fish but was fishless when we spoke a few hours in!
Was out with Paul Davidson today at Draycote and had a master class on fishing the Midas. Paul was a great boat partner and shared all his knowledge and info on the Midas and the way he fishes it, which was very impressive and he was very successful.
Had a great day with Paul Bagshaw. Paul had 5 really nice rainbows up to 3lb. Most took a small size 12 booby, but oddly none took the nymphs in the middle, best area was drifting from the boat dock out into the open water and along the dam.
Out with Terry Clark and Rick today with Nick Dunn helping out with the guiding in the second boat with Terry and how things change overnight. Tim Joyce was out yesterday and had a boatload in Savages by this morning the whole area including Sanctuary bay was green and no signs of life apart from one half-hearted pull on the daddies second cast!
